A Barrier to Starting: BIG
Do you have something tucked close to your heart that you hope to start? Because the Lord is a good giver of gifts, I think we all have a unique way we are called to love and serve our neighbors.
Busyness, circumstances, and fear often push those inklings and dreams to the back burner, and before we know it, we think it is too late.
Let's pull those dreams out, speak truth over our gifting, and dismantle the myths that keep us from starting.
The first one I think we need to dismantle is the idea that something must be big to be meaningful. Don't get me wrong; I'm all for a significant dream, callings, and purpose. But small starts and being faithful with the little count, too.
Looking at the myth of BIG:
-must be a wild, audacious world-changing dream
-must be forward-facing/public
-must have an audience
-popularity and fame determine success
Flip the script and reorient your focus to who you want to serve.
Maybe it is your family, and you look for meaning in the mundane.
Maybe it is wrestling between caretaking and parenting and it doesn’t feel significant but exhausting.
Maybe it is a teen who needs discipleship, a new mom who needs a note in the mail, or the Bible study you’ve longed to start.
Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.”
Coaching questions:
1st Step: Who are you called to serve? Who is the “neighbor” the Holy Spirit keeps bringing to mind?
2nd Step: What is the thing you long to start? Journal it, pray for it.
3rd Step: What is your small start? Can you put it on the calendar? Tell a friend?
In the Kingdom, nothing is without meaning or impact!
When you are ready, a Simply Start Coaching session is the perfect place to process these questions and create a plan for moving forward. You can read more about it in the link below.
Rewriting the story we tell ourselves comes with a lot of compassion, surrender, and willingness to see our lives through the eyes of the Lord.
