Finding Meaning in May

Can you believe it's already May? This month always seems to be a whirlwind, much like December, but without the joy of presents. The days are filled with a flurry of activities, packed schedules, the “last day of” events, and the added pressure of Mother's Day and Memorial Day. It's easy to feel like it's all too much and that we're not enough. If you nod your head in agreement, know you're not alone. We're in this together.

While the calendar may be relentless, we can take small steps to find joy and delight in our May days. We can find solace in our identity in Christ. His strength is enough to carry us through our moments of weakness. I often have to remind myself of this truth —I have full access to Him and the Holy Spirit, who can provide the rest we need. Let's embrace the potential for joy and meaning each day of this busy month.

A common coaching phrase, Made for More, rose to popularity a few years back, especially in circles leading and encouraging women. Somehow, we were missing all we were made for. There was more out there for us to do, see and experience. We were made for more. On the surface, that sounded exciting, hopeful, and inspiring. Digging a little deeper, though, it created more hustle and lack than maybe it was intended to. The pursuit felt unending with no clear measure of when you arrived at “more. More was never enough.

Do I want women to experience deeper purpose and joy daily? Absolutely. But I propose a different perspective that anchors our pursuits in the belief that we are 'made for meaning.'’  We can rediscover the significance of our current season without the constant pressure of 'more'’. It's about finding contentment and fulfillment in the present rather than always striving for something beyond our reach.

This month may seem overwhelming. I'll be right there with you, reminding you and me of the opportunity to look for meaning this May, to rest in Christ, and to tap into the all-powerful Holy Spirit.

Here is your first micro-action step:  Rename your To-Do list a Get-to list. The little switch will help your brain delight a smidge more. Tell me if it helps you.

I'm cheering you on this month, and all it holds for you and your family.

Bonus Resources for you: the Sunday Refresh, too. This can help you plan for your week ahead with ease and expectancy rather than dread.
